A BRAND new supermarket complete with environmentally-friendly features is coming to Woodley soon.

The Midcounties Co-operative Food store will open its doors in September, following a £550,000 investment that will create 20 new job opportunities.

The shop will open at Englefield Place on Woodlands Avenue on September 6.

A celebration ceremony is due to be held alongside Pilot Light Trust, a charity which transforms the lives of disadvantaged people by matching skilled volunteers with charitable organisations.

Agata Amir, store manager at the Midcounties Co-operative Food store in Woodley, said: “We are all looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming shoppers to our fantastic new store.

"We are confident they will enjoy the great range of food and drink we offer, including our Best of Our Counties lines."

The new store will be supporting many local producers in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of the produce.

Other environmentally-savvy features include eco-friendly LED lighting and energy-efficient refrigeration.

Mr Amir added: “The eco-friendly features will help us to reduce our carbon footprint as part of the Society’s commitment to sustainability which, as a Co-operative, is something that is really important to us.”

Shoppers will be able to find all of their weekly essentials and take advantage of Costa coffee facilities during their visits.

Peter Munday, a trustee of Pilot Light Trust, added: "There is much evidence that healthy relationships, and a sense of personal wellbeing are core to a healthy society.

"We seek to play our part in East Reading and Wokingham District in helping support a healthy society underpinned with strong relationships in the family and across the community."
