THE OVER-60s can swim for free thanks to a new incentive by the council.

From Saturday (1), residents over the age of 60 can enjoy up to four hours of free swimming a week at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre, in Rushey Way, Lower Earley.

As part of Wokingham Borough Council's new contract with Places Leisure, over 60s can swim for free between 8.25am and 9.25am on Mondays, and 2pm and 3pm on Wednesdays.

Sessions are also available at carnival Pool, in Wokingham, between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesdays and 9.30am and 10.30am on Fridays.

To take advantage of the offer, swimmers will need to provide proof of age at reception when they arrive and collect a ticket.

Once opened, the sessions will also be made available at the new Bulmershe Leisure Centre in Woodley.

Cllr Norman Jorgensen, Wokingham Borough Council's executive member for environment, sports, environmental health, leisure and libraries, said: "Our residents are already among the most active in the country according to the NHS.

"As we continue to enhance our leisure facilities throughout the Borough it’s great we are able to encourage our residents stay active and healthy with incentives like this."
