CRICKETERS invited the community to come and celebrate after an exhaustive fundraising campaign allowed them to replace their old practice nets.

Members of Theale & Tilehurst Cricket Club gathered at the recreation ground on Sunday and held a ribbon cutting ceremony as part of the annual club day.

The club raised more than £16,000 with the help of the community to bring the nets up to standard and replace the matting.

Sponsors were invited to come down to Englefield Road to join in with the celebrations.

The nets had originally been installed in 2006 and the refurbishment brings the facility up to date with the latest ECB guidelines.

The refurbishment was fully funded by fundraising and donations to the club, with further support from the Greenham Common Trust, the Good Exchange, the Englefield Estate Charitable Trust and Tilehurst Parish Council.

The official reopening of the nets took place at the club's annual club day, which included three intra-club Twenty20 matches and a barbecue.
