A WOODLEY charity is 'overjoyed' to have been chosen as the Wokingham Borough Mayor's charity of the year.

Me 2 Club, which supports children and young people with additional needs across the area, has been chosen by Cllr John Kaiser to be his Mayor's Charity for the 2018/19 period.

Cllr Kaiser was officially elected as the borough mayor at the council's annual meeting on Thursday, May 24.

Me 2 Club, which is based in Headley Road, helps children and young people aged from five to 19 with disabilities and additional needs to access mainstream activities. The charity recruits, trains and develops volunteers to provide on-to-one support to young people at an activity of their choice, such as cubs, brownies, gymnastics, youth groups or swimming.

Me 2 Club manager, Tess Eagles said: "The whole Me2 Club team were overjoyed to hear that the new Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr John Kaiser has chosen us as his Charity of the Year. For a local charity, celebrating its 15th burthday, his support will not only raise our profile throughout the Wokingham Borough but also much needed funds. We are looking forward to welcoming the Mayor and Mayoress as a guest of honour at our 15th birthday celebrations in June where they will get to meet our volunteers, our Me2 Club children and their families.
