FRIENDS will take part in a charity bike ride in memory of a dedicated cyclist who tragically died aged 40.

Simon Brooke, owner of Rotec Cycles in Shinfield, collapsed and died while out on bike ride earlier this year.

On Sunday, May 13, a memorial ride will leave Shinfield Parish Hall to raise funds in Mr Brooke’s memory.

Close pal Kyle Bateman, who is organising the event, said: “It is a great coming together of the local community to show their support for a local born and bred Shinfield man who gave so much to the local community with his bike shop.”

The adult rides will set off at 8am while the family and children’s ride will depart at 10am.

Participants have the choice of 50 mile, 100 mile or 150 mile routes for adults, while there is a five mile ride for families and children.

Proceeds from the event will go to Mr Brooke’s family’s nominated charities: The Welsh Red Kite Trust and the Mile Frost Fund for heart disease research.

Around 100 riders of all different ages have signed up to take part.

Members of the public are also welcome to attend on the day.
