FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze in a derelict building in Reading town centre in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
Crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Dee Road and Pangbourne fire stations were called to the scene in Garrard Street at 4.48am following reports of fires in the building.
An Aerial Ladder Platform, a multi-role vehicle and a crew from Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire and Rescue also assisted in the operation.
It took the crews more than an hour-and-a-half to bring the flames under control.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reels.
A full search of the building was carried out to confirm that no-one was inside the building at the time.
A Fire Investigation officer is now working alongside Thames Valley Police to establish the cause of the fire.
