TORRENTIAL downpour led to an issue with the sewage network in the town.
Vastern Road, going underneath the railway bridge, has been closed in both ways following the amount of rain sustained in the morning.
A spokesman for Thames Water said: “The flooding has been caused by an issue with our sewer network following very heavy rainfall, and we have sent tankers to the site to pump out the excess water.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and we’re working hard to return the road to normal as quickly as possible.”
Jacqui Salazar, a local resident, said at 1pm on Wednesday January 24: "It has been closed for about half an hour.
"Initially cars were driving down the middle until the police arrived and closed it."
Thames Valley Police has been contacted for comment.
Thames Water appeared to indicate that this is a drainage issue, with a message posted on their Twitter account.
We're sorry for any traffic disruption caused by the flooding on Vastern Rd #RG1. We have a team on the way now to investigate the cause of this. We'll provide a further update as soon as possible #RDGUK
