A SEVERELY wounded dog was found with injuries consistent with illegal activity.

The greyhound that was handed over to to the RSPCA by a member of the public had a de-gloved lower jaw, leg wounds and old scars on its face.

The large cream-coloured dog, found in Burghfield, Reading, was unable to close its mouth, had blood-stained bite marks and a veterinary examination suggests the injuries are consistent of those commonly sustained through badger baiting or hunting activity.

RSPCA inspector Sophie Daniels said: “This poor dog was found in Reading in a horrendous state, with a de-gloved lower jaw - meaning the skin had been ripped from his muzzle.

Reading Chronicle:

"He also had leg wounds and many old scars on his face.

“Microchip details traced the dog back to previous owners in South Wales – who were horrified to hear of how the dog had been found, and the fears of the vet."

The dog has since been taken back to Treharris, where it is continuing treatment and is on pain relief and anti-biotics.

Anyone with information about how the dog was found in the Burghfield area of Reading with horrific injuries on October 29 is urged to contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
