A CRICKET club's dream of building a state-of-the-art pavilion moved a step closer thanks to a generous donation.
Falkland Cricket Club in West Berkshire wants to replace its dilapidated pavilion, which was built in the mid 1970s, because it no longer meets the needs of players.
If built, the hub will be used for a range of activities like heritage walks, yoga and community group meetings.
The club was picked out by Persimmon Homes to receive a £750 donation as part of its Healthy Communities scheme.
Club spokesman John Bolan said: "We cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough for their support. We are a major community cricket club for the local area and play a strong role in the development of recreational cricket in West Berkshire.
“We want to provide a fit-for-purpose building to increase our activities, including non-cricket activities such as new heritage walks, new music sessions, yoga and community group meetings.”
Falkland was founded as a charity to offer cricket activities for both children and adults.
It is hoped the new pavilion will provide changing facilities for men, women and people with disabilities.
The club also wants to build new offices for Berkshire Cricket Development staff.
Martyn Clark, managing director of Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, added: "It is clear to see that the proposals for a new cricket pavilion will not only help the players, young and
old, but also fulfil a need for the local community. We are delighted to be able to support them.”
