THE LARGEST tennis facility in the town has officially opened following a £850k project.

The Whiteknights campus at the University of Reading is home to the newly-opened TennisPark, complete with eight outdoor and three indoor courts.

Five existing outdoor courts have all be resurfaced and fitted with new floodlights, while a brand new insulated domed court will ensure tennis fans can enjoy the sport throughout the winter months.

Iain Akhurst, director of sport at SportsPark at the University of Reading, said: "It is fantastic we can now include amazing all-year round tennis courts with all our other great quality, affordable and easily accessible sports facilities for everyone's health and wellbeing at the heart of our campus."

The project was co-funded by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), who helped fit the courts to LTA-approved standards.

John Golding, LTA's regional manager, added: "We are delighted to be able to support the University of Reading with the development of the TennisPark.

"There is already an extensive community coaching programme, good links with the local tennis club and an extensive student tennis programme.

"Investing in the facilities at the University ensures this programme will develop further."
