A BURGLAR has been jailed for three years after attempting to raid the George and Dragon pub.

Daniel Richardson, of Helmsdale Close, was sentenced today (September 18) at Reading Crown Court after he entered the pub through the cellar and tried to steal money from the till.

He fled the scene on June 2 after being startled by a member of staff.

Richardson later entered a property on June 14 on Stone Street by smashing a glass patio door at the rear of the building.

He stole a racing bike, which has not yet been recovered.

The 27-year-old was charged with both offences on June 21 and admitted to two counts of burglary.

Investigating officer, PC Steve Parsons, based at Reading police station, said: "This sentence reflects the full gravity of the burglary offences, and is the culmination of months of hard work from a team of dedicated detectives and police officers who are determined that prolific offenders, such as Richardson, receive appropriate justice.

"Crimes of burglary will not be tolerated and the full force of the criminal justice system will be brought to bear on anyone who commits this offence."
