A TUNISIAN man accused of beating and raping a woman earlier this month has been remanded in Bullingdon Prison.
Jamel Smiti is accused of attacking a woman between June 10 and 13.
The 37-year-old appeared at Reading Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 20 and spoke only to confirm his name.
Smiti was remanded in custody and is due to appear at crown court on July 24.
Smiti stands accused of raping a woman over the age of 16, one count of assault by beating and another of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Lorna Patterson, chair of the bench, added: "You will be attending Reading Crown Court on July 24 via video link and in the meantime you are remanded in custody."
