THE chair of a tennis club based on a community site earmarked for a school is calling on independent contractors to redo a consultation on where the school should be built.

David Maynerd said the way results in a 2015 survey are organised hides the true strength of feeling around Mapledurham Playing Fields.

The consultation offered five choices and broke results down the 4,000 responses by parish and school catchment area. Many responses appeared in multiple breakdowns.

The retired maths teacher said the homes nearest the field had been included with the rest of Reading to mask opposition to the scheme.

“If you’re going to do this you can’t keep overlapping the results, it confuses the issue,” he said.

“Nearly 3000 homes have been included in the Mapledurham area so without getting the original data back you can’t see how RBC and the EFA have massaged it.

“They should get someone independent in to collect the data again and do it properly.

“Mapledurham should be looked at on its own the same way the other parishes were.”

Reading Borough Council was approached for a comment.
