A MAN of 37 was arrested after a computer hacker attacked a retirement database in America.

The Reading man was arrested on suspicion of three cyber crime offences following a police investigation by specialists.

The hacker attacked the Orange County Employees Retirement System (OCERS) in the first three months of the year.

Staff at OCERS were asked to set up online accounts for their retirement funds.

The new accounts would allow them to log on via a web portal and change the bank account which their pensions were paid into.

A number of fraudulent accounts were set up for staff with their pensions being paid into an internet bank account.

The Reading man was arrested by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit’s cyber crime team on Thursday, September 1, and bailed until September 22.

He was arrested on suspicion of unauthorised access of a computer system with intent to commit further offences, unauthorised access to a computer system with intent to impair operation of a computer, and fraud by false representation.
