A MAN had to be cut free from his vehicle this morning following a collision between a car and a bus on the A33.
Both drivers have been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital but there were no other passengers in either vehicle.
The crash took place at around 6.50am this morning just south of the M4 and has led to heavy traffic delays in the area.
It involved a single decker Reading Buses service and an estate car.
The bus driver had a chest injury and the car driver had more serious injuries including head and chest injuries.
Firefighters had to remove the seats of the car to safely get the driver out of the car.
The watch manager for Caversham Road fire station said: "An elderly gentleman driver was trapped in the car.
"The collision happened on his side of the vehicle.
"We stabilised the car, lowered the seats down, put in a board in and extricated him through the back of the vehicle."
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said there were heavy delays in the area as the bus had to be removed from the road.
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We were assessing and treating two patients at the scene and both were taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital."
