The 18-year-old was with a man she had met on Oxford Road before they walked along Bedford Road, Eaton Place and Howard Street.

The pair ended up in Body Road where the rape is said to have taken place on Satruday April 25.

Police believe the attack took place between 4am and 6am and the rapist is described as a man in his thirties, white, 5ft 6ins, stocky, bald with some grey hair and brown eyes.

He spoke with an English accent and was waering a black jacket and dark blue jeans at the time of the offence.

Investigating officer, Det Insp Stuart Bosley, said: “The incident occurred during the early hours of a Saturday morning so there may have been people on an evening out in the town that may have seen something. I would like anyone who has any information, no matter how small, to contact police via 101 and quote URN 384 (5/5).

“I would also like to reassure the public that we are investigating this serious crime and will be reviewing all local CCTV, making house to house enquiries and extra police patrols will be in the area.”
