A CAT shot in the face with an air pellet has prompted a police appeal for information.

The offence was believed to have taken place towards the end of March and beginning of April in the playing fields behind Milley Road, Waltham St Lawrence in Maidenhead.

Archie, the black cat, was taken to a vet where the air rifle pellet was removed from his left cheek which required stitches, however, he is now making a full recovery.

Maidenhead police station's PC Ryan Vaughan said: “It may be that Archie was an unlucky victim but we are keen to speak to anyone involved in target shooting in the area.

“Any deliberate act of animal cruelty found to have taken place will be dealt with in the appropriate manner.”

Anyone with information should call the Thames Valley Police 24-hour enquiry line on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
