For Reading Nostalgia this week, we are going focusing on several events that took place in Reading a decade ago.
The 2012 edition of Sport Relief saw many school kids do their bit to raise money for charity
For some, 2012 may seem like a distant memory, but for others, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the summer Olympics, the European Championships as well as all of the other memories the third year of the decade brought still remain fresh.
The school raised £5,000 for charity
However, for this week’s edition, we are looking back at two stories that took place in 2012, which you may remember.
Lots of many was raised through cake sales
As it was the year of sport with the Olympics and Paralympics taking place in the UK, the incredible finale in all of England’s top-tiers (which saw Reading gain promotion to the Premier League), as well as the exciting matches at that year’s Euros, we’re going to talk about how several schools in the town and beyond did their bit to help raise money for the 2012 version of Sport Relief.
Notably, in March of that year, the Queen Anne’s School in Reading raise a whopping £5,000 for the charity through its annual Spring Fair.

On show where cake sales, Easter related activities, and items to be purchased.
It was enjoyed by many people
They were one of several schools to raise funds for the biannual event, which, in 2012, raised an incredible £50,000,000.
Lots of people took part in the Reading Half Marathon
That year also saw thousands of people from the town and beyond attend and take part in the Reading Half Marathon.

Runners were seen taking part in the event dressed up in numerous outfits, as they raised money for their respected charities.
Finally, as well as the Royals going up in 2012, which caused mass happiness across the town, as it meant Reading were playing top-flight football for the first time in five seasons, another story managed to catch the eye of the locals, and it had nothing to do with sport.
2012 saw several people get invloved and help a local nursery with a revamp
In 2012, a very popular nursery was revamped with the help of locals in the area, as the Blagdon Nursey received a fresh look for the year.
Lots of work was done to revamp the garden
The main focus was to improve the nursery’s garden, with many people in and around the area getting involved to help the nursery in its time of need.
