Bassist Ross McNae spoke to us about the upcoming show and how they are remembering what it is like to be a band again.

Following a slow return to touring McNae said their festival season has already got off to a flying start after the Scot rockers played to a home crowd at T in The Park.

He said: “Every year is a total homecoming there, it’s amazing for us to get that reception every time. It’s sort of like that for us at Reading too, we seem to play there nearly every year.

“As kids we grew up watching bands at festivals like T and Reading and you dream of being able to play there just once, let alone returning to play on bigger stages.”

Last year saw the band play the Main Stage for the first time and though McNae said it was a great experience, it still felt as if they were testing the water. He said: “This year we are really looking forward to going back into the NME tent.

“The atmosphere that you get in there is completely different to outside, it’s dark in the daytime and even though you’re inside there are still thousands of people in there.”

A receptive crowd is always welcome but McNae also feels there is something special about Reading Festival, he said: “I remember the first time we played there just driving up and seeing that famous red and yellow stage and thinking ‘my God we are actually here’.

“That year at the festival was one of the first times that we felt like we had been accepted outside of Scotland.

“It’s a proper rock festival as well. Glastonbury is great but that is more for indie bands but Reading has that extra element; maybe that comes from memories of watching Nirvana play there when we were growing up.”

Twin Atlantic will be playing the NME Stage today (Friday).
