Festival Republic Stage on Sunday

LIVERPOOL lads, Sound Of Guns are performing at the Reading Festival for the first time.

The band, made up of vocalist Andy, guitarists Lee and Nathan, bassist John and Si on drums, have had a successful year, making headway since causing a noise during BBC’s Introducing sessions last year.

Their debut album What Came From Fire was released to rave reviews as being the ‘one that breaks them to the mainstream’ and their single Architects was ‘single of the week’ on Greg James’ Radio One show. Having already performed at the likes of Glastonbury and LED Festival, the five-piece band are bringing their explosive rock anthems to Reading.

Frontman Andy Metcalfe said: “We’ve been back in the studio the past couple of days getting songs together for another album.”

But the boys, who have been labelled by Sound City as ‘the biggest sound in Liverpool’, have not neglected to prepare for a knockout gig.

Andy added: “It’s a special show. We’re not nervous, we love performing songs on stage. It’s a natural thing for us.

“I’ve never actually been to Reading Festival so it will be a new experience. Hopefully a good one.”

Sound Of Guns got together in Liverpool and wrote and produced their music in Penny Lane Studio, including their new single Elementary Of Youth, which is set for release on vinyl and to download on Monday, September 20.

But Andy is not surprised by the band’s success, and said: “We have been in bands for years so by the time we all met we’d been through the mill so we knew what we were doing.

“We didn’t want to start gigging without good songs. Bands rush into that. Now we’ve got a lot of songs.”

The band will be rocking the Festival Republic Stage on the final day of the festival where music lovers can decide if Sound Of Guns really are the next best thing in rock’n’roll.

Andy’s top three tips to survive the festival experience are: “Pot noodles, whiskey and the number one would be wellies.”
