In May 2009, Brown brought the house down and the audience to their feet with her distinctive mix of jazz, reggae and funk at The Firestation, in St Leonards Road.

She said: “It was quite early on in my career and I remember it well because I was playing an upbeat number and people were out of their seats and dancing in the aisles. I remember thinking ‘this is how I want it to be every time’.

“I now gauge all my performances on how it went that night. I loved how it felt – I really remember it well.”

The MOBO award-winning artist will make a return – this time kicking off Windsor Festival at the Theatre Royal Windsor, in Thames Street.

If the audience are expecting a conventional night of jazz then they may want to think again.

Brown said: “I play jazz but I love to mix genres and combine sounds. It’s got fusion, reggae, a bit of funk and soul – there’s something for everyone. It’s an interactive show. I like to bring the audience into it and for people to sing along.”

She added: “Live for me is where it’s at. It’s what I live for – as a musician you have to record your music but in the booth it’s not the same.”

Brown, who has been labelled as the emerging voice of mainstream Jazz in the UK, will play tonight (Monday) at 8pm.
