MORE than 650 people packed into Reading Concert Hall to enjoy a joint show with The Reading Barbershop Harmony Club (RBHC) and The Westminster Chorus, an award-winning barbershop choir from America.

The show was organised by RBHC to help the 35-man chorus from California with the costs of their five-day visit to Britain for a tour which also saw them crowned Choir of the World at the Welsh Eisteddfod.

RBHC spokesman Lawrence McNulty said: "Individual members of RBHC accommodated the young Americans in their homes and even provided guides for a much-appreciated half-day tour of London.

"Although the audience in the Concert Hall contained a lot of barbershop men and women there was a good number of people who were new to this style of four-part harmony.

"They were unanimous in their ecstatic applause for these very talented young men."
