Metamorphosis at The Progress Theatre, Reading
Excellent use was made of the small stage at the Progress Theatre in this production, affording them another opportunity to do what they do best - presenting powerful symbolic performances of modern works. (In this case, Steven Berkoff’s adaptation of Franz Kafka’s surreal play about a young sales executive who inexplicably turned into an insect overnight.)
Not content with merely using the text to tell the story, director Joanna Rogowska introduced a different approach to her production by having a female cast member (Allicia Buckle) perform the principal male role of Gregor Samsa, while the role of his sister Greta was played by Chris Farman.
Impressive characterisations achieved by Thom Sellwood in his cameo roles complemented the performances by Jim Tubb-Galley and Evie Frith. Excellent sound and physical theatre contributed to this thought-provoking production.

Report commentI must have seen a totally different play. It was badly directed and performed.
