Review: theCOLOURS at The Oakford Social Club, Reading
By Sarah Edser
THE anticipation built at a very busy Oakford Social Club as the crowds waited to see what Reading favourites theCOLOURS had in store.
It'd been seven long months since they played a home show, or any at all for that matter, as they have been busy working in the recording studio in Leeds on a whole new batch of tracks for what will become their debut album.
Kicking off with drum crescendos that any major festival headliner would be proud of, band heart throb (very apparent with the hordes of female fans) Tony Folland re-introduced the band as they kicked off with electronic opener Break Up - a track they debuted at some of the summer festivals last year to great acclaim (see the live video on their MySpace).
New single Tonight I Let You Go - released on Monday - figured early on in the set as lead singer Tom Pickford told us in his typical cheeky fashion to download the track on our mobile phones. Apparently it is "much easier to download when you're drunk".
The band showcased why we've all got a lot to be excited about. For now the band are back on the road touring the UK for April, with a diverse set featuring everything from epic anthems to electro party tunes.
New tracks like Slow Dance and older gems such as set ender Minutes and Hours and encore track Homesick Valentine show why theCOLOURS appeal to such a broad audience. One happy crowd member was even heard exclaiming as he left that he expects to hear the band all over Radio 1.
Sooner rather than later we all hope!
theCOLOURS are on tour this month around the UK. Single download details are available at myspace.com/thecoloursreading and www.thecolours.co.uk
