Review: Moscow City Ballet's Cinderella at The Hexagon
WHAT a pleasant change to watch something different to the usual fare of The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty which, delightful as they are, seem to be the regular repertoire when ballet companies visit Reading.
While the fairy story we all recall was not strictly followed in this interpretation, the dancing was certainly of a very high quality with a particularly skilled interpretation from Valeriya Guseva in the title role.
The last time I watched this company I felt there were rather lethargic performances from some of the supporting dancers; not so this time, everyone portrayed their individual roles superbly, indeed at times it was difficult to decide whether to concentrate on the principal dancers or watch the interesting roleplay taking place away from centre-stage.
Igor Shavruk's detailed interpretation of Prokofiev's score and the ability displayed by all the cast made this a memorable evening.
