A NEAR-capacity audience was enraptured by the world-famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band who gave a brilliant rendering of their programme.
No doubt many had been attracted by seeing the band in the 1995 movie, Brassed Off, and they did indeed revive memories of that splendid film with their varied programme, the evening's enjoyment being greatly enhanced by the charming and witty presentation of each item by the band's Musical Director James Gourlay.
There were many outstanding solo performances and the band demonstrated they were equally proficient performing the syncopations of Bernstein's West Side Story as they were with the sonorous chords of Wagner's Entry Of The Gods Into Valhalla.
