At The Mill At Sonning until April 10
SUPER play, super set and super performances from all five members of the cast. I could almost finish the review there and hope that everyone rushes to see Jill Hyem's new play for themselves!
The action takes place in a top-floor flat in Paris rented by retired teacher Nancy (Marlene Sidaway) where she awaits the arrival of a recently-widowed school friend, the frumpy Anna (Lucy Fleming, pictured with Michael Fenner) who has spent many years nursing her sick husband.
Another friend from long-past school days, the frequently married Rachel (Louise Jameson) who lives nearby often visits Nancy, usually to relate tales of her latest sexual exploits with her ever-changing toyboys!
Clad in tight skirts and high-heeled shoes, she is the complete antithesis to Anna, living life to the full and calling herself Raquel because it sounds sexier!
Cajoled by her Parisian friends, Anna has a make-over, turning into a very attractive lady who catches the eye of local handyman Charlot (Michael Fenner).
Everything appears to be progressing well until landlady Madame Boussiron (Anna Nicholas) upsets many apple carts.
Michael Holt's delightful set enhances the action of this most enjoyable production.
