THE best meal of the week for me is at about 2.30pm on a Sunday. A nice roast with all the trimmings.

Now I don't have to wait until Sunday as Nibbles at No. 10 in Manor House Lane, Datchet, is serving a Wednesday roast as their special of the day.

The Guide sent me along to try it out. A choice of roast beef or roast pork was the order of the day and they let me have a bit of each, served with carrots, cauliflower and lovely crisp roast potatoes and lashings of hot, thick gravy.

I did not have to wait long as it was freshly carved and served within five minutes of sitting down at the table.

For dessert I had a heart-shaped, tart with ultra-thick jam.

Nibbles is a delicatessen as well as a place to get your sandwich or baguette for lunch and all the food is homemade.

Another of my favourites is their quiche with a few chips and salad. I always seem to get two of my five-a-day when I get into Nibbles, even when I have the chips!

There are specials on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as well as the roast on Wednesday.

The building is part of Datchet Railway Station and at the back of the kitchen is a hatch where you can buy a coffee or cake while waiting on the platform for the train to London.

Nibbles will celebrate its 14th anniversary on Wednesday.

Give it a go, I didn't need much dinner in the evening after my 'Sunday' weekday roast.

Location: 21 Manor House Lane, Datchet, SL3 9EB.

Phone: 01753 543737

Open: 6.45am-3.30/4pm Mondays to Fridays, 8.30am-3.30/4pm Saturdays, closed Sundays.

Parking: On-street parking outside.

Average prices: The roast is £5.95, sandwiches and baguettes from £3.
