Review: Snow White at the Shinfield Players Theatre, Friday, January 15
PANTOMIME time is the one occasion in the Shinfield Players' calendar when all age groups within the theatre join forces.
The colourful costumes, the credible storyline and its good smattering of popular music all delivered by a lively cast proved to be a winning combination for the theatre this year.
The bright, toe-tapping opening chorus was interrupted by the arrival of the evil Wicked Queen - an impressive performance from Cara Broadhurst that soon had us all booing her every entry.
A charming portrayal of the title role by Charlotte Hill was well-matched by Claire Tickner's role as Prince Charming, while Jim Clements turned in an outrageous performance as pantomime dame Nanny Gote.
Superb diction from Heidi Ashton (Mirror) ensured her cheeky lines were clearly audible, despite the fact that she spent all her time behind the gauze 'mirror' and the members of the theatre's youth groups, performing as the Seven Dwarfs, all gave good accounts of themselves by clearly depicting the characteristics of their various names.
Working well together, the outstanding performances from comedy duo Sniff and Dribble (Nicky Galloghy and Katie Cox), made them firm favourites with the audience.
