Review: It's Never All Right On The Night at The Mill At Sonning, Saturday, January 16
AS A playwright, Simon Williams is no stranger to The Mill, where all his plays received their premiers.
Often too, he appeared in or directed many of them and in this latest offering he joined forces with Issy Van Randwyck and Philip Pope to deliver a collection of both old and new spoken and musical theatrical anecdotes.
True to the show's title, there appeared to be several hiccups during the performance.
All three performers found it necessary to make constant references to scripts strategically placed around the stage on lecterns or pianos and I could not decide whether this was deliberately included, or they were genuine lapses.
While the production regularly raised peals of laughter from the audience, I couldn't help feeling that it would have worked better as a radio show or, bearing in mind the success Simon has also had as an author, simply in book form.
The production runs until Saturday, February 20. See www.millatsonning.com
