IN a time when money is tight and punters are feeling the pinch, one young man has decided to shell out in support of a good cause.
Graham Maydell, 28, has made it his resolution to get back to the music by giving up his time to organise and promote a rock gig at Windsor Firestation in aid of NSPCC.
"I decided to do the gig because I felt that it would be a fun and interesting way to give money to charity. I would get to meet lots of new people and be able to draw on my experiences of running gigs during my younger days. I decided to do the gig as the result of a New Year's resolution which was to be a lot more giving to worthy causes," he told The Guide.
You might remember Graham from Berkshire-based promoters Bukandskit, whose highlights included bringing Biffy Clyro to audiences at Bukandskit fest in 2004, and hosting a lesser-known Frank Turner's intimate showcase at Phatz Bar (now Zee Bar), in Queen Street, Maidenhead.
Of his latest dip into the Berkshire music scene, he said: "It was that time that I draw upon for experience. Behind the scenes the original Bukandskit members are still giving me a lot of help! I have always enjoyed music and find it is a great way to bring people together. Back then I used to put gigs on for profit, but as I get older, I think charitable causes are the way forward. This gig is in aid of the NSPCC, a great charity."
He continued: "The bands on the night will be We Caught The Castle, Streetfight Silence, The Bone Idols and J Perkins. The first two bands were suggested to me by Bring The Noise promotions, who have been a great help. The Bone Idols and J Perkins are bands from Windsor who have been friends of mine for years. The Bone Idols are fronted by Mark Handley, a regular at Windsor Firestation, and J Perkins has been a friend of mine for a long time, and used to be in a band called Dr. Sid who played gigs for me 10
years ago!"
Get your charity cheer together and head down to Windsor Firestation on Saturday from 8pm. Tickets are £6 on the door, with £4.70 worth of sales from each ticket going to a good cause.
