Comedy: Pappy's

CURIOUSLY-NAMED three-man sketch act Pappy's have won hearts and minds with their exuberantly silly shows, and the people of Reading are due to be drawn into their world of daftness once again next week.
Their new show, All Business, which they are touring nationally, sees the boys attempting to take things more seriously to counter financial crisis.
Matthew Crosby told The Guide: "We are almost trying to be serious and be professional but that is quite a tall order for us! It starts out with us trying to be all business-like and ends up being business as usual, which is us falling around like idiots onstage!
"We have a show written and scripted but we are happy to go off script, we try to be as live as possible. In the same way that a stand-up would, we try to incoporate what is going on in a room. We have all done stand-up on our own and we try to make the show as near to a hybrid of sketch and stand-up as we can."
Matthew added that the name Pappy's was something the threesome are stuck with: "It is something of an albatross; we did not think too much about it when we chose it. In the early days we used to have this mysterious benefactor character overlooking us and controlling us called Pappy, but after a while we scrapped that, but the name has stuck.
"If we thought we were going to have the slightest bit of success we would not have called ourselves Pappy's!"
Pappy's are performing at South Street Arts Centre on Friday, April 1. Tickets are £12 or £10 for concessions, plus booking fee. Call the box office on 0118 960 6060 or visit
