An enchanting evening

Riverside Productions are putting on a magnificent production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in the grounds of the Beaumont Estate in Old Windsor from Tuesday, August 17 until Saturday, August 21.

Riverside Productions was founded by a group of Drama school graduates who decided to put on a play for two weeks every year, and now the company celebrate their 59th year of performing.

One of the unusual features of the company is that they rehearse, build the open-air set and put on a production all within two weeks, and this year they will perform Shakespeare's classic comedy in stunning surroundings.

Director Sue Baxter, who lives and works in Berkshire, hopes to create a fast, funny and accessible production that will challenge the 30-string cast.

She said: "We're taking a bit of a different slant with our version of A Midsummer Night's Dream by setting it in the time of the British Raj rather than Elizabethan England when it is usually set and casting some of it as it may originally have been cast in Shakespeare's time.

"I think those people who have never seen The Dream before will be enchanted and for those who may have seen the production previously I am sure they will discover something original and fresh in this interpretation."

Evening performances commence at 8pm, with a matinee on Saturday at 3pm.

For tickets, costing £12.50 in advance and £15 on the door, call the box office on 07884 087 304 or visit www.riversideproductions.org.uk
