I am Pete Wheeler

Take one venue, associated with commercial and chart music, fill it with the kind of crowd you would expect to see at a Babyshambles gig and give them some of the most cutting edge new DJs around. It's an odd formula I admit but over the last few weeks this has been happening at Skint Mondays at Revolution Reading and the results have been beyond all expectation.

Skint Mondays is a weekly night where we mix up indie, electro and bass which began 20 months ago and has grown into a big gathering for lovers of the kinds of music that rarely dominate the Radio One playlists but still fill a dancefloor.

This month has seen the beginning of an ongoing selection of special guest djs at Skint Mondays who have been responsible for some of the biggest tunes at the night. On 1st Febuary, we welcomed Emalkay, the man behind 'When I Look At You', the first dubstep tune to be named Guardian single of the week. The club reached capacity by 10.30pm with hundreds having to be turned away.

The following week saw local success story Does It Offend You Yeah? playing a blinding mix of everything from Cypress Hill to Major Lazer to Rage Against The Machine. They even gave the first ever play of new DIOYY? tune 'The Wrestler' which I'm sure we'll be hearing more of in the future.

This Monday (February 22) will be a live band special with three big local talents playing live sets on the night. Vices will headline, playing their first Reading gig since last October. Support comes from Boydidgood and Paul Hodgson, who supported Pete And The Pirates at SUB89 last year.

The guest DJ sets return the following week (Monday, March 1) with the brilliant Late Of The Pier taking to the decks under their Corporal Zarcorp guise. Also forthcoming are Jakwob (the man behind dubstep remixes of the hotly tipped Ellie Goulding) and 'Rio de Janeiro's answer to Daft Punk', The Twelves, who are confirmed for April and May respectively.

* Pete Wheeler will be djing his regular night 'Kick Out The Chairs' at Oakford Social Club tonight (Friday).
