Come out to Play

ALL has been quiet on the Glasswerk Promotions front of late, but that changes this weekend.

The Plug N Play studio-cum-venue in Milford Road, Reading, has had a refit and is rebranding and relaunching as Play tonight (Saturday).

It has had a swish new bar and several licks of paint in a rather fetching blue, and Glasswerk's Tom Manning has lined up a fantastic gig to celebrate.

Brighton poplets Doll & The Kicks are headlining. They've squeezed the gig in between supporting Morrissey on tour and jetting off to Texas for South By South West (SXSW), the festival we all got very excited about this time last year when Pete And The Pirates played at it.

D&TK had a packed 2009, picking up critical acclaim left, right and centre and selling copies of their debut album like there's no tomorrow.

They are well worth checking out - if only because Doll (yes, that is her name) has been likened to YYY's Karen O as well as Siouxsie Sioux.

Support comes from Sixty Watt Bayonets who were the only Reading band to play the festival last year and are planning a single launch soon.

The band should still be buzzing from their BBC Introducing slot with I Blame Coco at The Oakford last week, so bring your dancing shoes.

To get your heart racing nice and early, Wokingham's live and kicking Attention Thieves will be opening the night, and Marcus MidiMidis will be DJing.

Glasswerk Presents Doll & The Kicks with support from Sixty Watt Bayonets and Attention Thieves at Play, Milford Road, Reading, tonight (Saturday) at 7pm.

Tickets £6 in advance from www.seetickets.com or www.wegottickets.com
