SHOWBUSINESS! - the effortless glitz and the glamour of the stars.

Well, not exactly. While audiences lap up polished productions and picture perfect primadonnas, there's always another story.

It'll Never Be Alright On The Night sees The Mill at Sonning expose the more fallible side to the acting business, showing that even the biggest stars get off days.

The show is the brainchild of actor Simon Williams, on our screens this week as a gruesome serial killer in Lynda La Plante's Above Suspicion.

He said: "It's about all the bits of showbusiness that people don't get to see, all the forgotten lines and the fall outs and the cock ups back stage. We always see the finished product but I think people also want to know what's really going on."

The show gives a light touch to the pretensions and insecurities of famous stars from the past including Noel Coward and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Simon said: "I've been involved in showbusiness for the last 40 years and I've always heard these stories about the people involved so I've garnered them from years of sitting in stage door pubs up and down the country and in theatrical digs.

"It's perfect for after new year if people are feeling a bit down because it's a bit of froth and a bit of fun, there's music and it's a good laugh. We tell the stories in different characters, one minute an outraged old queen, the next a crazy method actor."

Simon is joined some classic numbers by musical star Issy Van Randwyck and pianist Phillip Pope.

From Thursday, January 14, to February 20 at The Mill At Sonning. Call 0118 969 8000 or visit www.millatsonning.com
