The Plough and Theale Royal Mail battled for every loose ball in their cup clash.

THE Plough kept their treble hopes alive with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Theale Royal Mail to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Jon Lusted Cup.

Plough also remain well placed in the Division Three (West) title race and face AFC Beechfleet this weekend in the last 16 of the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup this weekend, but they were pushed all the way last Sunday by Theale.

They got off to a slow start but two goals in the space of five minutes from Lee Aberdein settled them down and Carl Dean almost added a third with an effort that came back off the bar.

Theale pulled a goal back early in the second half and then piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser, although Plough also went close to grabbing a third when midfielder Danny Sims smacked the crossbar.

In the end Plough secured their place in the next round without ever hitting top gear, although Daniel Gallard, Jamie Stubbs and Stuart Duckett all impressed.

Also in the Jon Lusted Cup, AFC Earley booked their place in the third round with a comfortable 3-0 win over New England.

The sides were locked at 0-0 at half-time, but Earley's dominance finally told in the second half.

Elsewhere, Fox & Hounds Reserves edged out Ras Rovers 3-2 and FC Whitley proved too strong for Victoria Arms Reserves, winning 5-2.

And they will be both be joined in the third round by Whitley Athletic, who beat Loddon Valley Rangers Reserves 2-0.
