FROZEN pitches were the bane of the Sunday footballer's life this weekend, with the cold overnight conditions playing havoc with the programme once again.
It meant that just three of the scheduled games went ahead as the Reading & District Sunday League suffered another near wipeout that it can scarcely afford.
The games that did go ahead were all in cup competitions, with Burghfield putting in the performance of the day to see off Calcot Locomotiv 5-2 in the Ted Cambridge Cup.
Callum Rosier was the star of the show for Burghfield, bagging a hat-trick in the win - including a rare right-footed strike that stunned players on both sides.
His brother Kieran also chipped in with a goal, while the five-star effort was completed by Kashif Chowdhary who enjoyed an outstanding game at the back with his brother Kaser.
Other star performers for Burghfield were keeper Jason White and right-sided midfielder Josh Sickle, while Scott Fribence and Danny Miller got the goals for Calcot.
Two ties went ahead in the Treasurers Cup, with Four West leaders SC United seeing off their Four East counterparts Hobnob 3-1.
Ben Tan-Haddow was the hat-trick hero for United to lead them into round three, with Danny Jakubiszyn the driving force from central midfield.
Earlier David Gale's header from the excellent James Plant's corner had given Hobnob the lead just after half-time, but they could not withstand the United pressure and slipped out of the competition.
In the day's other game, FC Berksalona advanced to round three with a 2-0 success at Arborfield.
Both teams struggled to deal with the icy conditions in the first half, with Berksalona keeper James Bishop pulling off a couple of great saves to keep the scores level at the break.
Berks started the second half brightly, with Steve Smith hitting the post, and they finally took the lead when Chris Beckett scrambled in Smith's long throw.
Arborfield had a couple of long range efforts but Bishop was not going to be beaten and 27-goal top scorer Chris Browne wrapped up the win when he slotted home late on.
