Sunday League stunned as B's announce shock exit

STEVIE B's boss Tony Suarez has revealed that problems with player availability was one of the key factors behind the surprise folding of the club.

Senior Division powerhouses B's stunned the Reading & District Sunday League by pulling out of the competition in the wake of Sunday's 6-0 defeat at newly-promoted Wrightchoice.

But Suarez revealed that it was not a snap decision - and that the club almost didn't see the start of the current campaign.

He said: "To be fair it's been coming since the end of last season when we started to have a few problems getting teams out.

"I thought we'd give it another chance at the start of this season but not a lot has changed really.

"People have other commitments and I'm not going to blame them for that, but I was getting fed up struggling to get a team out.

"But that's life, it's not the end of the world."

B's roared through the divisions since joining the league at the end of the 1990s, culminating in the superb double season of 2007/08 when they claimed the Senior Division title for the first time as well as retaining the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup.

And Suarez reflected: "That was probably the highlight, although you could say it was the beginning of the end.

"Once we had won the title, maybe the players thought there was nothing left to win.

"But they have been a fantastic bunch of lads to have around and I would also like to say thank you to our sponsor Belcher & Son, and everyone associated with the league for making it so much fun."
