Players Ben Carter, Louise Rees, Dave and Joel Moorcock, Lee Hannant and Richard Saunders, who play for the pub in the Wokingham Independent Darts League, were joined by Alan Street and Paul Webb, captains of The Dukes Head and The Ship.

They group took 42 hours and 45 minutes in all to complete the monumental task.

While runners were pounding the streets in the London Marathon on Sunday, the players threw nearly 27,000 arrows as they walked up and down the 7foot 9¼ inch oche an incredible 8,908 times – the equivalent of a full marathon itself!

But it was well worth the effort as they raised more than £1,000 for The Red Robin Trust which conducts research into Maffucci Syndrome and Ollier’s Disease – rare conditions that cause multiple bone tumours and occur in only one in 100,000 people.

“We started at 7.00pm on Friday evening and threw the last dart just before 2.00pm Sunday afternoon,” said Dave Moorcock. “We played in shifts. There were plenty of sore arms, backs and feet.

“Keeping hydrated was critical. Fortunately we were in a pub.” If you would like to make a donation to The Red Robin Trust you can do so at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/dartsmarathon.
