After Adam Tombs had seen an early effort ruled out for offside, Read and a Daniel Donegan penalty put Green in charge at half-time.

Read doubled his tally when he headed home Donegan’s corner and in an action replay, Read was celebrating another hat-trick after nodding in another Donegan set-piece to make it 4-0.

In the closing stages, Read then turned provider after squaring the ball to Donegan and a late consolation from Rangers did little to spoil an impressive all-round Green performance on the day.

Leaders Wrightchoice Group stayed in charge at the top, although they were given a scare before seeing off basement boys Ghana Stars 3-2.

After failing to turn their superiority into goals early on, Woodley Hammers were made to pay as they went down 2-1 to The Mod following a first-half sending off.

With the game goalless but Hammers in charge, Woodley’s task was made that much harder on the stroke of half-time when Rob Timbers was dismissed for what was judged a dangerous challenge in the centre of midfield.

It was always going to be an uphill battle from that point and the situation was made worse when Woodley conceded a goal to a near post effort in the 50th minute.

Hammers bounced back on 67 minutes when man-of-the-match Sam Cialis charged down a clearance and calmly converted his chance by slipping the ball under the Mod keeper.

With Woodley skipper Harvey Detenon organising the defence excellently it looked like they would emerge with a gutsy point.

However, just four minutes from time, keeper Stephen Brearley made a brave effort to block a firm strike but the ball agonisingly trickled over the goalline to leave The Mod celebrating as they joined Woodley Hammers on 18 points.

Roebuck made it a magnificent seven out of seven after outgunning Athletico Forest 5-1 in Division One East.

And it could have been more with the woodwork saving Athletico on at least four occasions.

Buster Broadley fired Roebuck ahead with a stunning free kick, which went in off the post, and Roebuck were in cruise control when Broadley added his second.

It was 3-0 at half time thanks to Jordan Sawyer’s effort and a double after the break from Brett Rann, one of them from the penalty spot, completed the runaway victory.

There was a nine goal feast in Division One West as Richfield Rovers Reserves eventually saw off Polonia Reading 5-4.

Rovers raced into a 3-0 lead in just half an hour as Craig Haylett completed a quick-fire hat trick.

Polonia pulled one back just before the break and after goal machine Haylett grabbed his fourth, Polonia made it interesting by pegging two more back.

A 20-yard screamer by Ellis Mason made the game safe but Polonia would still not lie down and added a fourth with the last kick of the game.

Richfield player-manager Stewie Corp said afterwards: “I’m pleased with the performance even though we tired towards the end, which was always likely to happen with this being our first game for four weeks.

A couple of former Turtle’s helped inspire Warwick Arms to a superb comeback victory against high-flying Holybrook in Division Two East. Two goal Nathan Daniel and midfield maestro Sean Gracey both played starring roles as Warwick came back from 2-0 down to set up a shock 3-2 success – thanks to Neil Ward’s late winner.

But it was former Purple Turtle players Daniel and Gracey who stood out to leave manager Neville Swift beaming.

He said: “Both Nathan and Sean have done well for us since joining from Purple Turtle who folded last season.

“And Nathan in particular worked his socks off on Sunday, scoring two goals which was just reward because he never gave up chasing lost causes all game.

“They annihilated us earlier in the season so this time we went five across the middle and kept persevering.

“To be fair they were all over us for the first 20 minutes and took a 2-0 lead but we showed great character to hit back for the win.” A defensive error allowed Holybrook to take an early lead and it was soon 2-0 to the visitors after Warwick’s appeals for handball were waved away.

But the home team, who suffered an 8-0 defeat at the hands of Holybrook back in October, were given a lifeline five minutes before the interval when Daniel pounced.

The striker, who only signed for Warwick a month ago having been without a club following Turtle’s demise, was soon celebrating a stunning equaliser after a fine individual effort.

There was a let-off for Warwick as Holybrook hit the post but with just seven minutes remaining the remarkable turnaround was complete as a long throw by Simon Shepherd was headed over the line by Ward.

After three months without a win, Loxwood finally stopped the rot as they outgunned depleted Horse and Jockey 4-2.

Loxwood made the most of the pub team only having 10 players for the first 20 minutes as they raced into a 3-0 lead.

And although Horse and Jockey made more of a game of it once they were at full strength, the damage had already been done.

After just four minutes, great work by Luke Parsons saw him set up Jason Ivil for the opener before Jack Carpenter struck twice in quick succession, after being set up by skipper Jonny Austin and Ivil.

A free header at the far post gave the home side some hope but just two minutes into the second half, Austin teed up man -of-the-match Steve Roberts to make it 4-1. A defensive error by Matt Poll let Horse and Jockey in for a second in the 65th minute but Loxwood then shut up shop, determined to hold on for their first win in nine league and cup matches.

Burghfield Reserves extended their lead at the top of Division Two West to 10 points with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Theale, but Division Three East table-toppers Le Galaxy suffered a first defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 at home to FC Berksalona.
