Following last week's heavy rain, conditions were tougher than usual at this difficult course, while there was also an air of sadness among club's members following the death of president Derek Bradfield earlier in the week.

The under-15 boys edged out Aldershot by just one point - 24-23 - after their 4km race.

Chey Kemp led until the final third of the race before finishing fourth with a time of 13mins 12secs, 10 second​s​ behind the winner, Tom Bourne of Wimborne.

Second home for Reading was Nick Wiltshire in seventh place with a time of 13:27, while their third scorer was Sam Rodda in 12th place with 13:48.

Of the non scorers, Harry Roe was 16th in 14:11, Max Martin 24th in 14:58, Tom Nike 34th 16:15, Bradley Ware 36th with 16:33 and Harry North 42nd in 17:55.

Eddie Steveni sprained his ankle and was forced to drop out when well-placed.

Zak Colvin finished strongly in the 3km under-13 race to finish third in 10:29, leaving him 23 seconds behind the winner, Luke​ van Oudtshoorn of Aldershot.

Ben Rollings was fifth in 10:40 and the scoring team was completed by Joseph Mott, 13th with 11:06. Reading's total of 21 points left them second to Aldershot in the team placings.

Twins Jack and Oliver Hynes, both making their cross country debuts for the club, finished 20th and 22nd in times of 11:27 and 11:29 respectively.

Ethan Howes was 34th, Jensen Bale 47th, Jack Shaw 49th, debutant James West 52nd.

In the 5km under-17 race, Peter Cook was the best of the home club runners, crossing the line seventh in 18:34.

Alex Sutton was 13th in 18:58 and Isaac Farnworth 15th in 19:07.

Reading's total of 35 points was just sufficient to give them second place behind Aldershot and ahead of Wimborne.

Mike Lennon, still feeling the effects of recent illness, was 17th in 19:24, Michael Anderson 20th in 19:40, Ciaran Marshall 27th in 21:06 and Jack Harlowe 31st in 23:30.

All three boys teams are occupying second place going into the league's final round at Bournemouth next month.

Reading had four runners in the top 20 in the senior men's race with Dan Thorne fifth in 28:10, Jonny Roberts sixth - 28:43. Simon Heath 13th - 29.12 and Jack Gregory 18th - 29:46.

With Tommy Trees 36th, they finished third in the team standings behind Aldershot, Farnham & District and Southampton.

Lauren Church led the way as Reading AC under​-17 emerged as the top team for the first time this season.

Church, showing great character, finished strongly to take second place with a time of ​15:43, compared to the 15:43 recorded by the winner, Aiste Razmaite from Poole.

Lois Meredith battled well to finish sixth in 16:25, while Georgia Walton was

15th in ​17:29 to complete the scoring team.

Reading's total of 23 points left them two clear of runners-up Aldershot, Farnham and District.

Of the other Reading runners, Lydia Blythe was 20th, Yaz Thompson in 21st, Alanna Rayfield 23rd, Roisin O'Donahue 24th and Kate McKim 28th.

​Twelve Reading girls faced the starter for the under-13 race and the first of them to finish was Naomi Harris ​in 16trh place.

Charlotte Yeadon was 22nd with Hermione Walker two places behind her. This gave them seventh place in the team event.

​Of the non scorers, Saoirse McClure-Fisher was 31st, Georgia Whalley 42nd, debutant Emily Scrivener 43rd. Amber Hoadley 49th, Tessa Weavers 56th, Lucy Robertson 59th​, Esmee Harding 60th, Paige Mills 63rd and Amelia Clark 65th.

​Eleven Reading athletes ​completed in the under-15 girls race, Kirsty Walker was seventh, Yasmin Bartlett 16th place finish and Ella Saunders 19th, giving them sixth position in the team standings.

Georgia Hayes was 32nd. Charlotte West 41st, Grace Bedford 42nd. Abbie Cox 50th, Chloe Robertson 55th, Sophia Lunn 57th, Becky Houghton 59th and Georgia Cook 61s​t.

Reading finished third in the senior women's race with 31 points, behind Aldershot on 20 and Winchester with nine.

Liz Hartney ​took seventh place with a time of 21:48​, which also made her runner-up in the veterans' list.

​Team-mate Jordan Folk ​was four seconds behind her in eighth place, while Naomi Forshaw was 16th in 23:11, Anna Boniface was 17th, Sarah Wilkins 21st, Sue Francis 31st, Anna Godfrey 34th and Debbie Taylor 37th.

With three in the top 10, the veterans finished runners-up to Winchester in the team placings.
