The talented youngster from Pinewood Gymnastics Club beat off stiff competition from the best tumblers on the planet to win the gold medal for Great Britain in the 11-12 years age group at the recent Tumbling World Championships in Florida.

It was an incredible achievement by the 11-year-old star who was competing in his first world championships.

But he shook off pre-competition nerves and pulled off two stunning runs to qualify for the final in second place, just 1.1 point behind the leading American.

With the pressure firmly on in the final, Cowen did not disappoint and his execution and difficulty scores combined together were enough to secure the gold medal and the World Champion title in his age group.

It was a fantastic way for Pinewood and GB to end the tournament in USA.

Pinewood’s Lucie Colebeck represented the senior GB team in the final, won by GB team-mate Rachel Letsche.

A number of Pinewood tumblers were also in action in the age group competition including Zachary Middleton, Dominic Mensah, Eleanor Head and Cowen.

Dominic Mensah finished seventh in the 13-14 years age group, Zachary Middleton came 11th in the semi final of the 15-16 years category and Eleanor Head finished sixth in the 17-18 years age group final.
