CALCOT’S Tricia Watkins admits her experience was as good as gold as she presented medals to some of Europe’s finest Paralympians.

Tricia, who works as a PR ambassador at Sainsbury’s Calcot store, helped present the gold medal to Turkey’s Oznur Yilmazer in the women’s T11 400m classification at the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea.

The 48-year-old was nominated to present the medals for going beyond the call of duty in her role and says she feels proud to be working for a company that is providing so much support to disability sport in Great Britain.

“It was an honour to be included in the ceremony - I felt very humble and I thoroughly enjoyed it,” she said.

“There were so many inspirational athletes on show in Swansea and it just shows you what you can do when you put in the hard work. We’ve all got potential; we just need to use it.”

Tricia, who has worked for Sainsbury’s for the past 16 years, was one of 13 colleagues from across the UK to have assisted at medal ceremonies over the final two days of the European Championships, which was held in Great Britain for the first time in its history.

She was recognised for her work promoting the company in her local community, for which she received her nomination for the prestigious role in Swansea, and admits she won’t forget her experience any time soon.

“I’ve done a lot of work on behalf of the store in the community, making a positive difference to our customers,” she added.

“I’ve worked with schools to help the kids be more active, as well as with our local charity partners, which all requires me to work outside of my normal hours.

“It’s a dream job for me, and Sainsbury’s really put a lot of emphasis on valuing and recognising their colleagues which makes them a very good company to work for.”

Sainsbury’s is proud to support British Athletics through the Summer Series events and committed to helping young people lead healthier, more active lifestyles. For more information visit www.sainsburys.co.uk/legacy.
