The club hopes to attract new members and anyone is welcome to attend the event which takes place this Sunday from 2pm onwards.

Kevin Belcher, development manager at Burghfield Bowls Club said: "Once again its that time of year to look forward to summer on the bowling green. But this year it is a special once as it's the first on our new green.

"The Club has been working hard over the last two years to make this move happen and current members are looking forward to our Open Day on Sunday."

He added: "We welcome anyone who wants to try out the game of lawn bowls. Whether a newcomer or seasoned pro we would like to see you and show you what we have to offer."

Burghfield's season runs from April until late September. The club enters teams in several local leagues and there are matches taking place at the club almost every evening throughout the week and at weekends.

Belcher continued: "We are well known for being friendly, so why not pop down and see us. We are sure visitors will enjoy the atmosphere and welcoming nature of our club."

All that is required to try out bowls at the Open Day is a pair of flat-soled shoes - and plenty of enthusiasm.

As well as a new playing green, Burghfield is also fundraising for a new clubhouse.

The bowls club can be found in James Lane, Burghfield, RG30 3RS. For more information call Kevin Belcher on 0118 933 2581 or go to www.burghfield.bowls-club.co.uk.
