And her perfect day was made even more memorable when she met her idol, Olympic champion Jessica Ennis.

The 17-year-old from Wargrave competed as an Under 20 in the U20/U23 event and finished third amongst the U20 athletes.

Competing for Great Britain against athletes from France and Spain, Westwood’s best performance came in the 800 metres when she ran a personal-best time of two minutes, 25 seconds and 56 milliseconds to come fifth.

She also recorded PBs in the shot put (10.68m), high jump (1.72m) and long jump (5.46m) to finish in the top 10 in each event. In the 60m hurdles she crossed the line in 14th in a time of 9.17 seconds.

Simon Cook, head of athletics at Blue Coat, said: “This is an outstanding result for Georgina. To achieve such high standards in so many athletics disciplines in one day is testament to her hard work and undoubted natural ability.”

In addition to winning the bronze medal, another highlight for Westwood was meeting Olympic gold medallist Ennis, who – although she couldn’t compete at the competition - attended on Sunday.
