THERE were four Reading & District Angling Assocation club matches on the Kennet and Avon Canal last Sunday and three of them were on the Froxfield section.

Froxfield “A” section hosted Excelsior AC and with very clear water the anglers were cheering every time a boat came through to give some colour to the water.

All of the anglers caught fish but they were all small silver fish. Gordon Hancock topped the weights with 2lbs 8ozs.

Jock Turner took a rest from barbel fishing (his total for this season is 88) to catch small fish to take second spot with 1lb 7ozs. Third place went to Nicky Baker with 1lb 5ozs.

King Heron AC were on the “B” section and found the same clear water.

Silver fish were the order of the day again and Bill Gilham took 4lbs 14ozs of them to the scales to win the match.

Second place went to George Harris with a similar net that weighed in at 4lbs 4ozs.

Sam Skelton claimed third place with 3lbs 5ozs that included one good perch.

The “C” section was fished by Tilehurst Royal British Legion and the weights improved as anglers went further down the canal.

Richard Munday found skimmers and perch willing to feed and went on to win the match with 11lbs 15ozs.

Terry Littlewood finished in second place with a mainly roach catch that took the scales down to 8lbs 15ozs. Third place went to Dave Cowley with 4lbs 10ozs of silvers.

Prospect AC fished the East Towney stretch and this was dire in the very clear water. Not one of the anglers had anything that resembled a bite.

There was only one match on the River Kennet as Sundial travelled from London to fish at Beat 3B (Fobney Island).

It is a long way to travel especially as only two bleak were caught and as they do not count in this Club’s catch there was no winner and everybody had their money back.

Newtown AC’s December match is dedicated to the club’s late former stalwart Charlie Johnson.

The match was held on the Basingstoke Canal at Church Cookham.

A good turnout of 14 brave souls of which unfortunately only four managed to wet their nets.

In first place was John Clements with two perch which took the scales round to 8ozs.

Mick Wright took the runners-up spot with a single 6ozs perch and in third place was Terry Smith with a 2ozs perch.

The RDAA Tuesday Club fished the “B” section of Wallingford on the River Thames.

Dave Bosher took the honours with five chub to weigh in 11lbs 6ozs.

Second place was claimed by Terry Littlewood with two chub that took the scales down to 6lbs 3ozs and in third place was Ian Carey with perch and roach that totalled 2lbs 8ozs.
