Rockets take on Warriors this weekend
READING Rockets travel to relegation threatened Leicester Warriors on Saturday (3pm tip-off) as they look to secure a top three finish in EBL Division One, writes Ben Fisher.
Following Rockets' dominant win against Brixton Topcats last weekend, coupled with Leeds Carnegie losing to Manchester Magic, the National Trophy champions are one win away from finishing in at least third place and thus having home court advantage for the play-offs.
After a heavy schedule of four games in eight days for the Rockets, Head Coach Samit Nuruzade has had time to reflect on his team's recent performances but is also very much looking forward to the last part of the season.
He said: "The losses to Brixton (away) and Bristol were understandably very disappointing for us. Brixton played a great game and were very physical and rebounded profusely, whilst for the first time this season I feel, we were very much out-played by champions-elect Bristol who arguably produced their finest performance of the season.
"However, despite this setback, we have kept going, analysed our performances, and continued to prepare thoroughly and we were rewarded by an excellent performance on Saturday against Brixton where we came away with a good win but more importantly for us, a much improved performance. "Now we must turn our attention to the next three league games, all of which our tough encounters, especially away from home. We continue to work hard in practice but at this stage of the season it is all about making sure we stay injury free, continue to be the best we can at the defensive end, and work on tweaking and executing well offensively. I am confident we will have a great end to what has been a good first season in charge."
Rockets go into Saturday's game without point guard Jon May who has sat out the last three games with an ankle problem.
The 29 year old has been a regular in Rockets starting five and this is a big blow for the Berkshire outfit as they complete their league campaign.
Harrison Gamble continues to manage his knee injury and it is hoped the 18 year old will be fit for the weekend.
Rockets are however buoyed by the form American combo-guard Niko Scott has shown over the last two games, as well as the ever-present Ryan Lohfink and Robbie Parker.
National Trophy MVP Matt Guymon has fully recovered from his illness and will look to help his team finish the season on a high.
