THE Royal Berkshire County Pool Association (RBCPA) got their first taste of success last season and are looking to build on that in this campaign.

The Berkshire team consists of an A, B, C and ladies side each with a minimum of 11 players who play in a region league against London, Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.

The C team won the regional championship last year beating Kent in the final for their first piece of silverware in 20 years.

Dean Hardesty, joint C team captain with Lee Greenwood, said: "We had spent many years playing in Chiswick because we couldn't find a suitable venue in Berkshire. But now having moved to Rileys we finally have a firm base on which to build the team."

He added: "We were also boosted by the great form of 16-year-old Giuseppe D'Imperio who was beaten in the world junior final last year."

In Sunday's Inter-County match at Rileys in Cremyll Road, the A team lost 24-20 to the national champions London but remain top of the South East region.

The B team also lost 28-16 but the C team are following on from last year's success and are top of their section having won 27-17.

The team has been in existence for 25 years but has struggled due to a lack of venues to play in in Berkshire.

However, around 18 months ago the team moved to Cremyll Road and has seen a lot more interest from local players who were previously put off by travelling to their former base in Chiswick.
