GAELIC FOOTBALL

LADIES Gaelic Football is returning to Reading after a gap of nearly 10 years.

St Anthony's Ladies regularly competed in the London leagues in the late 1990s until the team dispanded in 2001, but a committed bunch of girls are now determined to revive the ladies game in the town.

The ultimate aim is to once again enter the London League and Championship but, in the meantime, the girls will be starting regular training sessions for both experienced players and those with an interest in trying something new.

The first session will take place on Saturday, January 30 at Kings Meadow (10.30am) and all are welcome.

St Anthony's mens team are also gearing up for the 2010 season in the London Divison Three league and the London Junior Championship.

They will be looking to build on a 2009 season that started disappointingly but ended on a positive note with an appearance in the Mullarky Cup Final.

They will also be looking to continue the progress made at underage level, with 2009 seeing Gaelic football introduced to three primary schools in Reading and both under-10s and under-12s teams taking the field in St Anthony's colours.

The St Anthony's Annual General meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 2 in The Gateway on Greyfriars Road (8.30pm) and is open to anybody with in interest in Gaelic football.
